Tanzania: Vodacom Sponsors Kilimanjaro Marathon's Fun Run Again

VODACOM Tanzania announced an undisclosed sponsorship for the 5kilometres Fun Run of the 2013 Kilimanjaro Marathon, to be held in Moshi on March 3.

The firm's Head of Brand and Communication, Kelvin Twisa, told journalists that this will be sixth year running for Vodacom to sponsor the fun race at the annual event. "We decided to sponsor this event because it brings together people from all walks of life.

The Vodacom 5km Fun Run further caters for runners of all ages and levels, enhancing the Marathon's reputation as an allinclusive race," he said. "We are very excited to be associated with the Kilimanjaro Marathon, which is today one of the biggest annual sporting events in Tanzania and the entire region.

"It attracts thousands of participants both local and international. But more importantly, it stretches beyond mere numbers and reaches into the hearts of marathon lovers worldwide," he added.

He added; "Since our first sponsorship to this event in 2008, we have witnessed the spectacular growth of this event and we are so thrilled for the opportunity to continue being part of it, but more importantly to add to our support to national athletes and help them experience the excitement of an international sporting event."

Twisa said the Vodacom 5km Fun Run ensures that each and every person can be part of the day's festivities. Walk, run, crawl, each at their own pace, there is no excuse for everyone not to participate. Besides, he said, being the naming right sponsor to the event, Vodacom also ensures that the race organizers stay in constant touch by providing dedicated phone lines and airtime to event organizers throughout the marathon weekend.

"As part of our involvement in the Kilimanjaro Marathon, we will bring our staff to take part in the race's Corporate Challenge and Vodacom Foundation will use the event to execute CRS initiatives in the region because we believe in not only making a difference but also enriching the lives of all Tanzanians," he said.

Executive Solutions Official, Angela Damas, whose firm is the event's local organizing Coordinators', said the next year's event is expected to attract at least 6000 runners worldwide next year.
