South Africa: Madiba Doing Well - Presidency

Pretoria — Former President Nelson Mandela is doing well and has had a good night's rest, says the Presidency.

"The doctors will still conduct further tests today. He is in good hands," the Presidency said in a statement on Monday

Madiba was admitted on Saturday at a Pretoria hospital for medical attention.

Today is also a special day as Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize on the 10th of December 1993, International Human Rights Day for his selfless contribution to the struggle for liberation, human rights and justice in South Africa.

The Presidency thanks members of the public for the messages of support to Madiba and family.

"We thank the media and the public for affording him, his family and the medical team the necessary privacy and space."

President Jacob Zuma has since visited Madiba at the Pretoria hospital.
