Zambia: Zanaco, Power in Fair CAF Draws

ZAMBIA'S envoys in the 2013 Confederation of African Football (CAF) inter-club competitions, Zanaco and Power Dynamos were yesterday handed relatively fair opposition in the preliminary round of their respective tournaments.

Zanaco, the 2012 MTN-FAZ Premier League champions, were drawn against four-time Swaziland football kings, Mbabane Swallows in the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League.

According to the draws conducted by CAF in Cairo, the Zambian champions will host Swallows on the weekend of February 15-17 at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka before heading to Mbabane for the return leg on March 1-3.

The winner of this fixture will face either Collins Mbesuma's Orlando Pirates of South Africa or Comoros' Djabal in the first round of this competition being defended by Egyptian giants, Al Ahly.

Next year's winner of the Champions League is assured of a $1.5 million cheque and a passport to participate in the more lucrative FIFA Club World Cup.

Power Dynamos, the 2012 MTN Premier League runners-up, were drawn against Angola's Clube Recreativo da Caala in the preliminary round.

Like compatriots Zanaco, Power will also kick-start their campaign at home when they host Caala at Arthur Davies in Kitwe before heading to Huambo for the return match.
