Lisbon — The Angolan Health minister, José Van-Dúnem, highlighted the distinction of Angolan Gomes Sambo, Africa director of the World Health Organisation (WHO), by the Portuguese "Universidade Nova de Lisboa".
Speaking to Angop at the end of the award ceremony, José Van-Dúnem said it was a "great satisfaction the fact that a prestigious institution like the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, through its Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, granted the Doctor Honoris Causa Award to physician Luís Gomes Sambo".
To the Angolan minister, the award of the title to Luís Gomes Sambo "is the recognition of the effort he made particularly for the improvement of the health of the Angolans when he was an Angolan Government member and for the health of the Africans, in general."
According to him, this is also a great opportunity for the "Universidade Nova", based on the experience it has of African matters, to help the African Portuguese speaking countries to face the challenges of modernity.
