Nigeria: Lagos to Establish Film City in Badagry

Lagos State is to establish a film city in Badagry to reposition the entertainment industry, Mr Disun Holloway, the Commissioner for Tourism and Intergovernmental Relations, has said.

In a statement in Lagos yesterday, he said the film city would be inaugurated in 2013. He said the film city, when completed, would not only boost the entertainment sector, "but add value to what already exists in Nollywood".

"The state government is desirous to reposition the entertainment industry by creating job opportunities.

"The creative entertainment industry is new and revolving and need to be well structured for better results," the statement said. He said government would continue to do its best to transform the industry, and said that piracy was a major constraint facing stakeholders in the sector.

"The present administration is determined to provide an enabling environment for investors to strive because the industry remained a basket of employment in Nigeria," it said.
