Nigeria: Alleged Assault Case On Hospital Staff Adjourned

A case of alleged assault on some staff of Kubwa General Hospital by five men last Wednesday suffered another setback at an Abuja Magistrate court due to the absence of the defense lawyer.

Ekeh Henru, Ahgbalusia Obi, Eneoli Nnachetam, Odumegbe Ifeanyi and Michael Ogedengbe were arraigned on September 5 for alleged joint acts, assault and inciting disturbance, which are offences contrary to Sections 79, 264 and 114 of the Penal Code.

When the case first came up in court, it was adjourned to September 18 after the accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the charges and were granted bail by the court.

The case however could not be heard as Prosecutor Ephraim Lukas told the court that counsel to the accused persons has traveled out of the court's jurisdiction for another matter.

Magistrate Mohammed Ibrahim ruled that the case be adjourned to December 11 for hearing.
