Tunisia: UGTT, Government Reach Draft Agreement to Avoid General Strike

Kasbah — A "positive" draft agreement which may lead to the cancellation of the strike, was reached Tuesday between the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) and the Government, Belgacem Ayari, UGTT Executive member said Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking to the press after talks held at the Government Palace in Kasbah, Belgacem Ayari said the agreement generally meets the demands of UGTT.

The agreement will be submitted Wednesday to the Administrative Committee of UGTT, he added.

It will be then signed by the government side in case of approval.

Minister of Social Affairs Khalil Zaouia said the two sides have reached a draft agreement to avoid the general strike scheduled for Thursday, December 13.

The agreement will be announced after its approval by the Prime Ministry and the UGTT Administrative Committee, he indicated.

In case of agreement, the signing ceremony will take place Wednesday morning in Kasbah.
