Nigeria: Baribote Removed

NPL congress has removed Rumson Baribote as chairman of the board and set a new date for the resumption of the League.

The congress cited the poor state of the League, executive rascality, gross incompetence and lack of sponsors as a reason for the removal of the former Bayelsa United boss.

The secretariat headed by the executive secretary of the NPL Tunji Babalola has now been charged with the responsibility of running the affairs of the league, in place of the ousted board.

The congress also reversed the expulsion of Ocean Boys from the league, quashed the ban on NPL executive Akin Akinbobola and lifted the suspension of Okey Kpaloku of Sharks and Farouk Yarma of Gombe United.

The congress further proposed February 16 as the kick-off date for the new season and directed that the annual pre-season Super Four tournament be held inKano.

Nineteen out of twenty Premier League clubs were present at the Prixair Hotel in Zone 6,Abuja, where the congress was held, with the exception of Niger Tornadoes.

The decisions made at the NPL congress in Abuja are subject to ratification by the NFF congress which will be held in Port Harcourton Thursday.

NFF satisfied with NPL congress

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed satisfaction with Tuesday's Nigeria Premier League (NPL) congress held in Abuja.

One of the three observers from the NFF, Emeka Inyama said he was content with the procedure and organisation of the NPL congress.

He added that the NFF observing team, which included Shehu Adamu and Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, will report back to the football federation.

But he said the Premier League will forward all of its decisions to the NFF. "Well as an observer I don't think I have much to say.

The communique for the NPL congress is already out and we just did our jobs as observers. But I'm satisfied with the procedure of the (NPL) congress as witnessed," Inyama told Supersport.com.

"As observers, we will get back to those who sent us but it is the NPL that will send the decisions taken at the congress to the NFF and not us (the observers)," said Inyama, who chairs the Nigeria National League (NNL).

At the seventh NPL congress, 19 clubs unanimously agreed to dissolve the Premier League board chaired by Victor Baribote Rumson "and mandated the Acting Executive Secretary (Tunji Babalola) to take over the affairs of the league pending further consultation."

The NPL congress also lifted the suspensions of Okey Kpalukwu, Farouk Yarma and Akin Akinbobola.

It also reinstated expelled club, Ocean Boys into the league by demoting them to the NNL.

February 16, 2013 was tentatively fixed as kick-off date for the 2012/13 season by the NPL congress.
