Nigeria: Strike - Jang Has Shown Goodwill - -Spokesman

A statement yesterday by Information Commissioner Yiljap Abraham in reaction to comments by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) accusing Jang of stoking crises in the state, said the NLC was ignorant.

NLC President Comrade Abdulwahed Omar had on Sunday said Jang revels in crises and does not mean well for workers in the state, accusing him of refusal to pay the new minimum wage.

But Abraham said "if Omar claims governor Jang derives pleasure from crisis, what is his gain? Or Omar means the governor merely relishes in punishing himself? Is this logical for a man who was twice a military governor and twice a civilian governor, very overwhelmingly voted back to office by his people?"

He said Jang has long negotiated and has been implementing the new National Minimum Wage to its workers.
