Gambia: Journalist Abdoulie John Released

Reports reaching this paper have confirmed the arrest and subsequent release of journalist Abdoulie John.

John, the Jollof News and AP correspondent in Banjul, was arrested on Sunday December 9th and released on Monday the 10th of December 2012.

He was picked up by officers of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA.

In a telephone interview with The Point yesterday evening, John confirmed his arrest and subsequent release by the NIA.

According to him, his arrest was in connection with his attempt to cover the release of eight Senegalese soldiers released by the MFDC.
