HORTICULTURE subsector faces a myriad of problems that call for urgent solutions through public private partnership.
This was said by the Tanzania Horticulture Association (TAHA) Executive Director Jacqueline Mkindi in a press release issued in Dar es Salaam.
She said that participants at a horticulture stakeholders' incentive meeting held in Dar es Salaam last week decried inadequate support policies and regulatory framework.
The stakeholders presented a wish list to the government to create supportive environment to accelerate development of horticultural sector in the country, calling for improved transport infrastructure to help farmers access local and international markets.
The Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and Cooperatives has partnered with TAHA and other stakeholders to work out a common strategy to address the challenges. "More than 80 per cent of Tanzania's horticultural export is airlifted through Kenya due to unreliable services at Tanzanian airports," he said.
