Nigeria: Country Spends N500 Billion On Technology Import - Notap

Speaking yesterday in Abuja at the workshop on the validation of the implementation framework for the revised science, technology and innovation policy, NOTAP Director General, Dr Umar Bindir, said due to the inability of Nigerians to produce indigenous technology to run the economy, billions of dollars leave the country every year in capital flight.

Bindir said 100 percent of technologies used in the ICT and the banking sectors were imported.

He said the vision 20: 2020 might be very difficult to achieve if the country continue to import technology.

Earlier, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Rabi Jimeta, said the government was poised at re-positioning Nigeria towards becoming one of the best twenty economies of the world by 2020.
