Nigeria: Don't Teach Chldren by Force, Says Educationist

Teachers have been warned not to train school children to learn by force as each child is peculiar and unique. Head of School, City of Knowledge Academy, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Ms. Abiola Lamikanra gave this charge while addressing a stakeholders meeting on the school campus hall.

She noted that a teacher, while teaching in classroom should be able to make himself simple and clear without being unnecessarily difficult.

She maintained that a good teacher is one who suggests solution to difficulties and make the student reason along and not the one who dramatizes and want the student to do so. "Any teacher who is properly educated, will be confident to impact knowledge," Lamikanra added

According to the educationist, "Many students who are connected to internet are not getting the right knowledge useful for them as many spend most of their time busy with the social media."

Lamikanra , debunked claims that child training is the responsibility of teachers, insisting that child training is a joint responsibility of both parents and teachers. "How do you want your children to be brought up," she asked.

She pointed out that CKA, a co-educational secondary institution is established to correct the wrongs in learning, and to provide excellent academic and leadership training for young minds. Lamikanra who lamented the eroding of Nigerian culture in our children, maintained that our children should be taught to have respect for our culture, character and confidence.

She said that at CKA, when a student gets to year 9, he will take what she called 'check point' before taking JSS examination which helps such a childkey into international schools standard.

Speaking on education standard in our country, she noted that the sector is not dwindling, pointing out that more private institutions are springing up to breach the gap. Lamikanra said: "With its inaugural academic session which started September, the school aims to instil leadership and ethical behaviour in its students.
