City residents terrorized by gangs.

A man was on Monday night lynched by a mob following a foiled attempt to steal goats from a homestead in Narumoru town. Macharia Njoki, 27, was cornered by the angry villagers as he was driving the 40 goats out of their pen in Gathiuru village, Nyeri.

His two accomplices escaped when the owner of the goats discovered them and raised the alarm. Nyeri police boss Kirunya Limbitu said Njoki was attacked with rungus and stones and set his body set on fire.

"He is an ex-convict who had left prison a fortnight ago after serving a sentence of a similar offense," Limbitu said. The police chief appealed to wanachi to report such cases to them instead of taking the law into their hands.
