Morocco: 'Friends of Syria' Conference Opens in Marrakech

The fourth meeting of the "Friends of Syria" group opened on Wednesday (December 12th) in Marrakech, MAP reported.

Arab and Western states will consider two key issues concerning the 21-month Syria conflict: the political transition in the event of President Bashar al-Assad's exit and the mobilisation of humanitarian aid as winter sets in.

More than 100 delegations are expected to attend the Marrakech event.

On Tuesday, US President Barack Obama proclaimed Syria's opposition as the "legitimate" representative of the Syrian people. The Gulf Co-operation Council, France, Britain and Turkey have also formally recognised the opposition.
