Angola: Armed Forces' General Staff Pays Homage to 1º De Agosto Team

Luanda — The General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) last Wednesday in Luanda paid homage to the senior males basketball team of 1º de Agosto, for conquering the African title last Saturday in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The ceremony took place in the premises of the National Defence Ministry.

On the occasion, the FAA General Staff chief, gen. Geraldo Sachipengo Nunda, who is the chairman of the club's general assembly, received from skipper KIkas Gomes a ball autographed by the whole team and a jersey of the club.

General Nunda congratulated the board of the club and the athletes and guaranteed the support of his institution to the team.

"When we took over the chair of the assembly we pledged support to our club. We want the only concern of the athletes to be the games and not lack of milk, transport and other conditions. This trophy is the result of a lot of work and all the associates neede to be congratulated", he emphasised.

On his turn, Kikas Gomes thanked the support being given by the FAA General Staff and pledged to continue working hard to win more trophies.

1º de Agosto has recently won the African Champion Clubs Cup title, after beating Petro de Luanda (also from Angola) in the final by 80-69.
