Gambia: Lamin Sports Committee Launches 'Operation Grass Our Pitch'

In its tireless and relentless efforts to realize to develop sports in Lamin, particularly the poor status of the football pitch that has raise high concerns, the Lamin Sports Committee has launched what it calls the 'Operation grass our pitch'.

The initiative, which was launched last Friday night at the Committee's first fund raising event is part of the committee's intensive fund raising campaign to mobilize enough resources to achieve this target.

Speaking to this reporter after the event, Abdoulie N. Baacha, secretary general of the Lamin Sports Committee said the fund raising was successful and was well attended by clubs, players, fans, and invited personalities. He said the committee is hoping to organize series of fund raising activities to achieve its target in the shortest period of time.

According to him, the current status of the Lamin football ground is not good and yet still Lamin continues to produce outstanding players both at national league and national teams. "I once again appeal on Laminarians residing in the country and outside, as well as good wishers and institution to support this initiative that will not only develop the village's sporting infrastructure but will also encourage the young ones to love the game more than now".

He explained that at the fund raising talent show, the committee was able to make good profit, while assuring that all is going to development of the Lamin football pitch. He concluded by thanking Gambega, the media, and all those who in one way other contributed financially or morally to the successful organization of the talent fund raising show at the Lamin Willy's Night club.
