Al-Azhar called all Egyptians to heed national interests while voting in the referendum on the new constitution.

Al-Azhar said voting in the referendum is a national duty, warning that rigging people's votes is prohibited. "People should decide their own future."

In a statement on Wednesday 12/12/2012, Grand Imam of al-Azhar Ahmed el-Tayyeb stressed that the referendum should be fair and free of any form of violence.

The results of the referendum should be accepted as representing the people's will to allow the country to forge ahead on its path of development, he said.
