Uganda: Film Group Parties Away Bleak Year

Mass Film Production, a nascent theatre and film group, had a miserable streak this year but went on to hold a pompous party.

The ensemble's only credit this year, Okubonabona Ssi Kuffa, premiered to a small crowd at New Club Obbligato in May. The group decried heavy losses and called upon any willing distributor to take up the otherwise fine film. And it seems someone out there came to their rescue. Otherwise, how do you explain the manner in which they partied last Friday?

This reporter bumped into them at a top city hangout as they drank all sorts of booze and feasted on expensive snacks, all the while boasting of how they 'have landed in things'. Basing on their liveliness (read wildness), it seems they have found a cash cow.

"This party is not just to end this year but to also usher in 2013 which will be a great year for us," they bragged as they grooved to loud music.

Well, hoping it was not the influence of booze, we will be watching.
