Gambia: Inferno Ravages Seven Houses in Sutukoba

Houses in the compound belonging to the Danso Kunda family in Wuli Sutukoba in the Upper River Region (URR) was on the morning of Sunday 9th December 2012 were ravaged by a fire outbreak which has caused a lot of destruction. The fire had burnt down seven houses belonging to such people like Mawdo Danso, Madi Danso, who lost 2 houses, Karamo Danso, Alieu (Papa) Danso, Ebrima Danso as well as a groundnut store.

Speaking to Foroyaa, Essa Danso, the compound head, said he still does not know what caused of the fire accident. Listing the items destroyed in the fire, he said they have lost 42 bags of groundnuts and other household furniture and valuables including clothes. He appealed for assistance from individuals, NGOs and other institutions to come to their aid in terms of food, clothing and materials for the reconstruction of the destroyed houses.

An eye witness, Makoyo Camara, told Foroyaa that she was at home cooking the lunch meal for the family when all of a sudden she saw fire on top of the roof of Karamo's house where the fire outbreak began. She also confirmed the destruction of food and other materials by the ravaging fire.

Another fire victim, Madi Danso said the fire had consumed all that he left inside his house including groundnuts and cash amounting to D7,000 which does not belong to him. He added that all his clothes and that of his wife Mai Touray were burnt to ashes by the fire.

Alieu (Papa) Danso, also a victim, said he lost almost D10,000 in the inferno.

Some members of the family were openly shedding tears for the great loss inflicted on them by the fire which gutted all the houses in the Danso Kunda compound. The Danso family is therefore making a fervent appeal for individuals and organizations to come to their aid and assist them in this most difficult period.
