opinionBy Ousman Njie
Do allow me space on your most respected newspaper to ventilate my opinions on a much troubling issue.
I write as a concerned citizen expressing my concern over the arrest and protracted detention of the venerable Imam of the Kanifing Layout Mosque, Imam Baba Leigh. This arrest will only go to give the country another spate of negative publicity.
Imam Leigh is a religious leader, an opinion builder and someone known for having much commitment to the community. His arrest and detention has been sending shockwaves throughout our society and even the international community at a time when we ought not be distracted from our collective efforts of fighting poverty and achieving Millennium Development and Vision 2020 goals. I therefore humbly call on the concerned authorities for his immediate release. Imam Leigh is indeed a force for good in our society, a spiritual guide to some, an apostle of truth for many and an illustrious example of quality leadership in our community.
