Tunisia: UNAOC Is Ready to Support Nation's Democratic Transition

Tunis — The United Nations Alliance of Civilisation (UNAOC) High Representative, and former Portuguese President, Jorge Sampaio asserted, on Thursday, UNAOC's readiness to support Tunisia in its transition to democracy.

In a statement after his talk with Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali in Carthage, Mr. Sampaio called on Tunisia to make the most of the 1974 Portuguese Revolution. He pointed out that the transition process, though it might be long and might need patience, is vital for a country which is going through a revolution.

Mr. Jorge Sampaio reminded that his country's constitution had taken two years for its approval and eight years for its final revision, to establish a stable political system guaranteeing the development of an economic and social model capable to face up the unexpected crises.
