The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) cancelled the general strike planned for Thursday (December 13th), TAP reported. The move comes after the signing of an agreement with the government on Wednesday, with both sides pledging to ease tension and continue dialogue.
Under the accord, the government denounced the violent attack on union activists by members of the League for the Protection of the Revolution. The December 4th incident occurred during a commemoration of the assassination of UGTT founder Farhat Hached.
The UGTT and the government agreed to set up a joint commission to investigate the attack.
