Gambia/Angola: Home Scorpions to Take On Angola in Friendly

A selection of locally-based players and one foreign-based star will this morning leave Banjul for the Angolan capital Luanda, where they are expected to take on the local side in an international friendly match this Saturday.

This development was announced by the Normalisation Committee of The Gambia Football Association through the Head of its Media and Comminications Department, Bakary Burama Baldeh, in a press release sent to Observer Sports yesterday.

The match is part of Angola's Palancas Negras' preparations for their assault in next year's African Cup of Nations which will be hosted by 1996 African Champions South Africa from the 19th of January to 10th February 2013. But it will also serve as a good preparation for the Scorpions ahead of the resumption of the team's participation in the qualifying rounds of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The Committee said it is pleased to formally announce that after final arrangements for the national football team's quest for a friendly, the team will "pit their strength" against the Palancas Negras on Saturday 15th December.

A 25-man delegation comprising of 18 players, 17 of which are locally based with FC Kazma defender Abdou T-Boy Jammeh the only foreign-based player in the team, five technicians and the Media Officer of the FA will be headed by Ebrima Secka, the assistant secretary general of the GFA. The game will be played at the Lubango National Stadium.

The release further stated that the Scorpions head coach Luciano Mancini and his technical staff in their process to building a home based national team have put up an array of local based stars to challenge the Palancas Negras. The Gambian team and delegation is expected back home on Sunday 16th December, 2012.

It concluded by saying that the Normalisation Committee takes this opportunity to seek the prayers of every Gambian for the Scorpions success in their preparations for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. It further wishes the lads the best of luck and every success while in Angola.
