Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr. Patrick Ekeji has expressed deep regret over the error of referring to an ex-Olympian, Nojim Maiyegun as "late".
He mistakenly referred to Maiyegun as being late at his remarks during the closing ceremony of the 18th National Sports Commission held in Lagos from the 27th of November to 9th December, 2012.
Dr. Ekeji who conceptualised and initiated the trophies and prices in honour of their contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria, said the error was brought to his notice in a story in a national newspaper.
He emphasised that he had very high regards for Mr. Maiyegun who was the first Nigerian to win an Olympic medal and regretted the error of referring to him as late.
Dr. Ekeji tendered his unreserved apology to Mr. Maiyegun's family and the Nigerian Sports community adding that he will continue to accord him the respect he deserves as a truly great Nigerian.
