Nigeria: Glover, Obajimi Win ATU Elections

A sports administrator, Dr Lanre Glover has been elected unopposed at African Triathlon General Assembly in Cairo today (Wednesday) as the new Vice President of the body.

Dr Glover, who is the founding President of Nigerian Triathlon union is also 1st Vice President of African Handball Confederation and an Executive Member of African Union Of Sports Medicine.

Also, the Secretary General of Nigeria Triathlon Union and a member of Board of Athletics Federation of Nigeria.

Dr Gloria Obajimi retained her position on the ATU Board when her opponents, Shirley Ah Yu from Mauritius and Yassmen Khaled Kara from Egypt stepped down.

General Ahmed Nasser of Egypt was elected unopposed as the New President of ATU while Alain St Louis is the new Secretary General of the body and Pierre Raoloenia as the new Treasurer.

Additional board members are Rachid Bennani from Morocco, Rick Fulton of Zimbabwe, Rodrigo Rocha of Mozambique and Mohammed Wanis from Egypt.

Glover in his comment , said the election of two Nigerians on the body was a demonstration of the confidence reposed in the quality of membership of the Nigerians in the body.

He assured that they would live up to expectation." It is also a charge for us to up our activities at the NTU level" he said.

GLover praised General Ahmed Nasser the new President of ATU for a well coordinated and organised congress which met all international standards, saying that he was confident that the new board will move rapidly to establish ATU as one of the leading confederations in the continent.
