Tunisia: Ben Ali Relative Captured in Seychelles

Sakhr El Materi, the son-in-law of deposed Tunisian dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, was arrested in the Seychelles, TAP reported on Friday (December 14th). According to Tunisian Justice Minister Noureddine Bhiri, El Materi was carrying an expired diplomatic passport.

In July 2011, a Tunisian court convicted El Materi in absentia of financial and real estate fraud. He fled to Qatar after the revolution that ousted his father-in-law.

El Materi married Ben Ali's daughter Nessrine in 2004.
