Mogadishu — Abukar Hasan Ali appointed Deputy Finance Minister by Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon resigned one day after given the job, Garowe Online reports.
Mr. Ali who announced that he will resign on Saturday - Friday is a holiday in Somalia - from the position of deputy finance minister in a press statement in Mogadishu.
He cited that after long discussions with his clan elders they agreed that they were not satisfied with the position he was appointed.
Adding that the Finance Ministry has two deputies and a state minister. Mr. Ali explained that the overlapping of duties could hinder progress in the ministry.
The initial cabinet list of 10 ministers had disappointed many politicians who stated that the list was too short. Previous cabinets under Prime Minister Mohamed Abdi Farmajo and Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas had 18 ministers.
The leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Shirdon decided to incorporate the ministries together, in turn shortening the list.
This is the first minister to resign in the government since the cabinet was appointed in November.
