Sudan: SPLM-N Claims Killing 12 Sudanese Soldiers

Nuba Mountains — A press statement from the Sudan People's Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N) issued on Sunday, 16 December, affirms that more than 350 homes were set ablaze in Al Manzala village in Rashad locality in the Nuba Mountains, South Kordofan.

Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, the movement's spokesman, told Radio Dabanga that heavy casualties were inflicted on the government troops and added that 12 Sudanese soldiers were killed and another 16 injured while three SPLM-N soldiers were left 'slightly' injured.

He stated that an Antonov warplane of the Sudan Air Forces bombed the localities of Boram, Heiban and Umm Doreen on Sunday. On the same day, Lodi continued, two bombs were dropped in the village of Tiess, while around 24 bombs were dropped in Umm Serdiba, all of which reportedly landed in farmlands.

The fire in the village of Al Manzala has allegedly displaced about 500 families, who lost all of their belongings and recently harvested food. Lodi added that the newly displaced families are in desperate need of shelter, food and medical care.
