Angola: Economics Weekly Wins Journalism Award Print Category

Luanda — The State-run economics weekly "Semanário Económico" won the print category of the 2012 edition of the National Journalism Award whose prize giving ceremony was witnessed by the Social Communication minister, Jose Luis de Matos.

"Semanário Económico" beat in the final stage of the contest the journalists Tandala Francisco (privately-owned weekly A Capital)" and Osvaldo Gonçalves (State-run daily paper Jornal de Angola).

According to the jury, the weekly won the prize with the works "Ten Years of Peace" and "Actual Angola", in which the paper interviewed several sources, including all provincial governors.

Journalist Amílcar Xavier won the award in the category of radio, while the photography and image trophy went to the State-run "Televisão Publica de Angola" (TPA) cameraman, Sebastião Solar.

TV Zimbo's Carlos Capitango won the television category prize, whereas the economics weekly won the award in the print class.

Each winner has been entitled to an Akz 3.5 million (Usd 35,000) cheque.
