Zambia: Mumbi Granted Bail

POLITICIAN Edward Mumbi has been granted cash bail of K5 million by Lusaka Magistrate Aridah Chuulu.

Ms Chuulu also attached other conditions to Mumbi's bail which included providing two Zambian working sureties from reputable organisations.

Mumbi was granted bail after he appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to three counts of being in possession of three motor vehicles valued at K250 million suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Particulars of the offence are that Mumbi, 56, of house number 396 A/8/11 of Lusaka's Makeni between December 1, 2010 and November 30 this year had in his possession a Mercedes Benz, registration number ALC 6229, Nissan Navara, ABT 5323, and a Mitsubishi Pajero, ALC 6336, properties suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Mumbi is being represented by lawyers Sunday Nkonde, Charles Siamukwa and Binn Mutale. The matter was adjourned to December 28 this year for mention.
