Namibia: Sphinxblick Stud Does It Again

Windhoek — ReiterVerein Swakopmund (RVS) recently hosted yet another successful Sphinxblick Eventing tournament at the Sphinxblick Stud near Usakos.

For the 5th time, Wesbank Transport stepped on board to sponsor this year's event. The tournament also paid homage to late Melvyn van Rooyen, who was a founder member and big supporter of the RVS.

For the past five years, the tournament has grown from strength to strength, while it has also received a substantial number of participants over the years. This year alone, 38 riders entered in this exciting event and they all learned a great deal from the world's best International Equestrian Federation (FEI) visiting Eventing officials.

International cross-country course designer and builder, David Evans from Britain, who recently received the British Bill Thomas Memorial Award for lifetime achievements and for the world's best course builder, made a great effort in showing the RVS team how modern portable cross-country obstacles are built and how courses are designed.

David was joined by one of the best and highest ranked FEI 4-star technical delegates led by Andy Griffiths, who was a professional Eventer and is in charge of developing the Eventing discipline in Eastern Europe and Southern Africa.

Christina Klingspor of Sweden, also a top-class FEI 4-star dressage judge and professional dressage rider, as well as an international FEI Eventing official was also part of the international visiting entourage at the tournament. Their visit certainly added great value to this tournament and will help with future developments of the equestrian sport.
