Tanzania: Pine Trees Worth Sh500 Million Destroyed in Bukoba

OVER 4,800 pine trees valued at 500m/- property of Mr Sylidion Rutayuga (45) at Butainamwa village, in Kasharu Ward, Bukoba Rural district were destroyed last week.

Ward Executive Officer (WEO) for Kasharu, Frank Kailembo said the incident happened on Monday night. He said two suspects (name withheld) have been arrested and have been handed over to Katoro police.

In a separate incident a 17 year-old girl died on the spot at Kashai Ward, in Bukoba Municipality after a wall collapsed on her. The Councillor for Kashai, Yusuf Ngaiza, said the incident happened on Monday night at around 9.00 p.m. following heavy downpour. Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC) Philip Kalangi confirmed the incident.
