ZAMBIA'S defence kingpin, Stoppila Sunzu has been crowned 2012 Footballer-of-the-Year at DR Congo side, TP Mazembe.
According to TP Mazembe website, Sunzu got 340 points to beat his club captain, Tresor Mputu, who is second, by 40 points with Zambian compatriot, Given Singuluma finishing sixth.
The towering defender is also in the race for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Africa-based Footballer of the Year award where he is competing against compatriot, Rainford Kalaba and Egyptian, Mohamed Aboutreika.
CAF will announce the winner during its awards gala night on Thursday in Accra, Ghana.
Sunzu, who has attracted interest from several European clubs including English side Reading, is tipped to join Barclays English Premiership giants, Arsenal.
The defender scored the Chipolopolo's decisive penalty kick which won Zambia a historic Africa Cup of Nations title this year over Ivory Coast.
