Egypt: Armed Attack Against Al-Wafd Party Headquarters

Dozens of gunmen attacked Al-Wafd Party headquarters as well as the party newspaper's offices, throwing flares that set fire to the building as well as smashing the windshields of several parked cars and injuring Al-Wafd members according to the party's statement.

Policemen tried to stop them and there have been clashes during which an officer and 5 recruits were injured.

In a statement, al-Sayed al-Badawi, head of Al-Wafd party, pointed the finger at prominent Salafist preacher Hazem Abu-Ismail's supporters.

Badawi asked the Prosecutor-General to present the accused persons to justice, adding that he said the secretary-general of the party reported the incident in the Dokki police station.
