Zimbabwe: Beauty With a Purpose - As 20 Teenage Beauties Battle for Miss Harare Crown

All is set for Miss Harare Junior 2012 pageant to be held at Pandhari Lodge on December 21. The event, which will run under the theme -- "Wide awake in education" -- will see a bevy of 20 teenage beauties vying for the coveted crown.

The winner automatically qualifies for the Miss Global Zimbabwe 2013 pageant and will walk away with hampers courtesy of Pandhari Lodge.

The top three will receive free professional training from Afrique Modelling Agency.

The beauty pageant is an annual event which is the brain child of the Harare Junior Council that seeks to give a platform to academics to show that they can do more than just books.

Miss Harare is open to girls between the ages of 15 to 20 years, from different schools and colleges in the capital.

According to one of the organisers, Tendai Kwenda, the preparations are at an advanced stage.

"The girls have started their rehearsals and we are happy to say Afrique Modelling Agency has been helping with the grooming and deportment of the girls," said Kwenda.

Kwenda said open auditions were held in the past four weeks in Harare.

"Thirty-five potential teen beauties from schools like Roosevelt, Girls High, Queen Elizabeth, Morgan among other were trimmed down to the 20 who will walk on the ramp," he said. Kwenda also said this year's pageant is bigger and better as there are three unique segments.

"We have colour blocking, nightwear and cultural wear. The top five will qualify for the question and answer category. We are glad that all is going according to plan and a host of celebrities are set to grace the occasion," he said.

In an effort to spice up things a bit, the organisers have arranged a pre-show party to be held at a venue to be announced.

"It's going to be the best ever show, were the contestants will have a chance to mix and mingle with the crowd and we have a couple of dance groups to entertain guests," added Kwenda.

Apart from the modelling extravaganza, High Definition and Earthquake are also billed to perform on the night with Deejays -- Jerry Springer and Blaque -- on the turntables.

Teddy, George Tang, 3P, Lil Swayz and JDV will perform the Miss Harare Junior title track, "Runway".

Tickets are being sold at Town House, Adventure Island and Edgars Store at Joina City.

The event is being sponsored by Pandhari Lodge, Spidex Media and V12 among others.
