Kenya: Nazizi Caught Up in Mombasa Bar Shootout

Kenya's top female rapper and reggae singer Nazizi Hirji was on Friday night caught up in a club shootout. According to the mother of one who relocated to the Coast from Nairobi, the shootout happened at Calypso bar in Cannon Towers, Mombasa.

"There was a fight outside and then suddenly a man came shooting everywhere. It is such a small place that can only accommodate 15 people. There are no security personnel or even bouncers. He was just shooting randomly and all this time as I hid behind the counter, I was just thinking about my son," Nazizi told Word Is.

"Lucky for us, no one got hurt as he just shot the glasses and broke a few alcohol bottles before the police finally came and arrested him. He was just an angry man looking for the people who beat him. He knew his target," she added.

Meanwhile, Nazizi is set to launch her album with Jamaican singer Ginjah in January. "An Italian record label has signed the album for distribution and we will have launches both in Kenya and Jamaica before heading for a Europe tour next year," she said.

Nazizi is set to release more music with her Necessary Noise partner Wyre. She is also doing a Mombasa tour with the Arusha-based Band Warriors From the East.
