Ethiopia: Industrial Week Celebrated

After finding out that the Ethiopian industry is not supported by applied research, the National Association of Ethiopian Industries (NAEI) is to celebrate the Ethiopian industrial week with the theme "Applied Research for Industry Development", starting from December 14, 2011.

The association which is celebrating the week for the 12th time selected the theme, observing that many businessmen are joining the industry sector just because they have the necessary capital, according to Mohammed Nur, chairperson of the Association.

"This culture has to be changed if the Ethiopian industry is to go one step ahead," he said.

The government plans to increase the industrial sector contribution to the economy by up to 18.8pc in 2014/15 from its current contribution of 12.7pc, according to the five year Growth & Transformation Plan (GTP). The sector is also expected to become the leading sector of the economy, overtaking the service sector by 2020.
