Tanzania: Don Urges Public to Acquire Relevant Skills

THE Mzumbe University Dar es Salaam Campus College Principal, Prof Andrew Mbwambo, has called upon Tanzanians to arm themselves with education in order for them to compete well on the global market and meaningfully contribute to national building.

He made the appeal during the College's 11th graduation ceremony held in Dar es Salaam over the weekend. "Today's world faces fierce competition, we need to arm ourselves with proper education," he said while addressing journalists.

He said getting best education especially at masters and Phd levels will help Tanzanians be at the same level with their counterparts in other countries and efficiently contribute to their country's social economic development. "We welcome people to our university for the best education," he said.

Prof Mbwambo said that his campus will continue implementing the government's policy that wants expansion of higher learning education and that the number of those graduated this year exceeded the previous ones. He noted that the campus plans to expand its facilities so as to accommodate increasing number of students every year.

"We have already acquired land where we will construct various modern structures to suit our needs-we thank the government and other stakeholders for helping us achieve our objectives," he said. He said that the campus continues to train lecturers in and outside the country where 59 of them are now undergoing PhD studies.

Mzumbe University Vice Chancellor, Prof Joseph Kuzilwa said the Dar es Salaam Campus was started to cater for the needs of employed city dwellers. "The performance has been good-the feedbacks we get from workplaces attests that," he said.

He told the graduates to be good ambassadors of the university by working hard and adhere to professional ethics they have acquired. A total of 1,019 graduates were conferred with different 11 Masters' Degrees.

For the first time, the college awarded two different Masters' Degrees jointly with the UK-based Bradford University which are Masters of Science in Economics and Finance Development (MCsEFD) and Masters of Science in Development Policy and Practice for Civil Society (MScDPPCS).
