Rwanda: Ruhumuriza Tops Region

Rwanda's veteran cyclist, Abraham Ruhumuriza, has been ranked the top cyclist in the East African region.

A panel of cycling personalities ranked Ruhumuriza, 33, the 12th top rider in Africa in a ranking led dominated by Eritrea.

Kenya's John Njoroge Muya is the other regional rider in the top 14 riders on the continent.

In the just-concluded La Tropicale Amissa Bongo tour in Gabon, Ruhumuriza, finished 12th to propel Team Rwanda to seventh overall position.

Eritrean rider Natnael Berhane, 22, is Africa's top rider with 72 points followed by South Africa's Reinhardt Janse Van Rensburg who has accumulated 41 points.

The top five ranking is completed by Adil Jelloul (Morocco) Tarik Chaoufi (Morocco) and Meron Russom of Eritrea.
