Nigeria/Ghana: Glo-CAF Awards - Okocha Leads Ex-Internationals to Accra

Former Super Eagles Captain, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, will lead the generation of ex-Nigerian players to the GLO- CAF Awards ceremony scheduled for December 20 in Accra, Ghana.

Organisers of the awards, Globacom, said Monday that Okocha and a former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, are expected to grace the ceremony.

Okocha distinguished himself with Eintract Frankfurt FC of Germany, Fernabache of Turkey, Paris St Germain of France and Bolton Wanderers of England.

He is noted for his stylish dribbles on the pitch. A one-time winner of the BBC African Player of the Year, he was nominated for Legends Award along with Ex-Moroccan International Mustapha Hadji in the 2011 Glo-CAF Awards. He wore many caps for the national team before he retired about five years ago.

Similarly, Ikpeba, a former player of Monaco FC, popularly known as 'Prince of Monaco' played for the France based team for many years before moving over to Borussia Dortmund FC in Germany.

He won the African Footballer of the year Award in 1997.

The two ex- Nigerian internationals will lead other Super Eagles players to the event where they will have the opportunity to reminisce on their Super Eagles days, as well as meet current and ex-internationals from different parts of Africa.

The 2012 Glo-CAF Awards will hold at the State House Banquet Hall in Accra, Ghana.

CAF released the final list of three African players last week for the awards.

They are the Ivorian Didier Drogba who currently plays for Shanghai Shenhua in Chinese League; Manchester City Midfielder, Yaya Toure; and Camerounian midfielder, Alexander Song who plays in Barcelona Football Club in Spain.

Meanwhile, ex-English International, John Barnes and Anita Erskine, a Ghana-based live show hostess have been confirmed as the official masters of ceremony of the 2012 Glo-CAF Awards.

Barnes, Member of the British Empire (MBE), was a former English footballer and manager who currently works as a commentator and pundit for ESPN and SuperSport.

Erskine on the other hand is a powerful personality whose energy and passion for life's adventures is unmistakable!

This is why M-NET lifestyle programme, STUDIO 53, picked the strikingly gorgeous Ghanaian as a field presenter for the show.
