CHIPOLOPOLO striker Jacob Mulenga on Sunday missed a penalty but that did not stop him from continuing with his fine goal-scoring form as he made amends with a late goal as FC Utrecht beat Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie week 17 match.
Utrecht took the lead through substitute Leon de Kogel in the 67th before he doubled his team lead in the 70th after scoring a rebound off a Mulenga penalty which Heerenveen goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt spilled.
Heerenveen then reduce the gap with a 78th minute goal by Alfred Finnbogason but Mulenga made sure of victory with an 89th minute goal which was enough to send Utrecht six on the table with 29 points.
PSV Eindhoven leads the chart with 37 ahead of FC Twente who also are on 37 but have an inferior goal difference, Ajax are third with 36 points, Vitesse Arnhem on 35 point and Feyenoord on 34 points followed by Utrecht, who have managed eight victories, drawn five and lost four scoring 24 goals conceding 19.
Mulenga, who was substituted in Utrecht 1-all draw against Heracles the other week after picking a minor injury, has given Renard a boost ahead of the Frenchman naming of the provisional squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals to be hosted by South Africa.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Mayuka's team Southampton was not in action at the weekend as their opponents Chelsea were competing in the FIFA Interclub championships where they lost 1-0 to Corinthians on Sunday.
In the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) Joseph Musonda played 90 minutes in Golden Arrows 2-0 win over Ajax Cape Town as Collins Mbesuma was not on target but played 68 minutes as Olrando Pirates beat Maritzburg United 2-1.
Chipolopolo goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene played 71 minutes as Free State Stars beat Black Leopards 2-1 in a match that saw Noah Chivuta watch proceedings from the bench.
