Zambia: ACSZ Turnover Up 16 Percent

THE Agriculture and Commercial Show Society of Zambia (ACSZ) has recorded a rise in its turnover from K11.4 billion in the 2011 financial year to K13.2 billion this year.

ACSZ president Joseph Mwale said the recorded increase reflects a 16 per cent rise from last year's turnover.

Mr Mwale said the overall performance of the society was satisfactory and that 2012 had been another successful year which had continued on the other year's growth.

He said the society's overall surplus recoded this year reduced from K1.7 billion in the 2011 financial year compared to K1.3 billion this year.

Mr Mwale said the show was a success in terms of numbers of show goers, exhibitors and quality of exhibits.

He said in monetary terms the society recorded another rise in show income representing an increase of 35 per cent from K6 billion in 2011 to K8.1 billion in 2012.

He, however, said that dairy entries also recorded an increase from 185,000 last year to 230,000 this year reflecting a 24 per cent rise.

Meanwhile, the new Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) management has lined up a series of off-season specialised exhibitions such as the Copperbelt Motor Show and the Food and Wine Expo as apart of its new business expansion programme.

General manager Lukonde Mfula said yesterday that, his organisation has developed a number of additional shows such as the Copperbelt and Northern Circuit Travel Expo, Manufacturing, Energy and Construction Exhibition shows with the help of stakeholders.

The Trade Fair would be turned into a host of sustainable activities throughout the year and ensure that the premises were fully utilised not only during the fair period but also off-peak season.

"The buildings will be open for rentals and we would also like to have the whole space rented out as an office park," he said.

Mr Mfula said ZITF was set to contribute to national development through playing a cardinal role in the promotion of value addition and local and international business partnerships as evident from next year's theme: Value Addition Through Global Partnerships.

The registration for participation in next year's trade fair which started in October this year and was expected to end in March 2013.
