Sakhr El Materi, the son-in-law of deposed Tunisian dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, left the Seychelles on Saturday (December 15th), AFP reported. Local authorities denied that he had been arrested, saying only that he had departed the country.
"The Tunisian authorities will do everything they can to get Sakhr El Materi extradited," Tunisian Justice Minister Noureddine Bhiri said.
In July 2011, a Tunisian court convicted El Materi in absentia of financial and real estate fraud. He fled to Qatar after the revolution that ousted Ben Ali.
El Materi married Ben Ali's daughter Nessrine in 2004.
