Uganda: Museveni Backs Busoga Expo

President Yoweri Museveni has agreed to support the Busoga Tourism expo if area chiefs agree to unite to support their kingdom.

The president, who was closing the Busoga expo at Jinja SS over the weekend, said he would support the renovation of all cultural and historical sites in order to boost tourism in the area. However, the president distanced himself from the kingdom stalemate, arguing that he was ready to support whoever is chosen as Kyabazinga and was only giving advice where needed.

The speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga commended Busoga MPs for supporting the expo, as a way of fighting poverty. She was backed by Jinja Mayor Hajji Mohamed Baswari Kezaala who commended the Busoga leaders for their initiative instead of waiting for state support.

The Uganda Tourism Board will soon start a cultural centre in the region to accommodate wildlife and boost the area's tourism potential.
