Nigeria: Jonathan Tasks Military On Unity

Speaking yesterday at the launching of the emblem for the 2013 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, the president said coming from diverse backgrounds, men and women of the armed forces remain the pillars of the nation's unity.

Speaking earlier, Minister of State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada, said it is important for the country to honour those that have sacrificed their lives for the unity of the nation.

Several dignitaries including, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senate President David Mark, Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal were decorated with the emblem.

Also decorated were former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, former President Shehu Shagari, Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako and PDP National Chairman Bamanga Tukur and Aliko Dangote, who donated N30 million to the appeal fund. He also announced a donation of N30 million on behalf of Dahiru Mangal.
