South Africa: Wastewise Fun Day At Klipfontein Primary School

The City of Cape Town's WasteWise programme team up with other departments, organisations and the local community to host a programme of fun and 'edutainment' at Klipfontein Primary School in Golden Gate, Bonteheuwel.

The theme was waste and recycling and the purpose was to encourage awareness and action to maintain a litter-free and healthy environment at the school and surrounding neighbourhoods. During the programme Zibi the WasteWise mascot and his friends, as well as tree planting, sports, fun and games executed special performances.

The event is the culmination of a community-driven planning process to address dumping, littering, and improving health and quality of life in the area. It also sets a benchmark in development planning for council and communities coming as it have from joint co-operation at grass-roots level.

WasteWise is the City of Cape Town's public education and awareness programme aimed at raising awareness and encouraging action to stop littering, minimise waste and increase recycling.
