Kuito — Nine mine fields with an assortment of explosive devices have been detected this year in Angola's central Bié province by the British non-governmental organisation "The Hallo Trust".
The information was released to Angop on Wednesday by The Hallo Trust head of operations, Cristóvão Alfredo, while assessing the work done in 2012.
According to the official, the fields were discovered in the municipalities of Andulo (three), Kamacupa (two), Kunhinga (two), while Kuito and Katabola have one each.
Cristóvão Alfredo said the find resulted from the campaigns conducted in the communities to raise awareness on landmine danger.
He said the organisation is currently working on two of the fields, before conditions are put in place to handle the others.
