Egypt: Presidency - SCC Statement Serves Specific Orientation

The Presidency said on Tuesday 18/12/2012 that a statement issued by the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) is serving certain orientations and deepens current political tension in Egypt.

In a press release, the Presidency added that several websites and newspapers have published a statement issued by a Presidential assistant on his web page regarding a road map for democratic transition in Egypt in which he made reference to the Court.

The Presidential press release indicated that the Presidential assistant did not address the foreign press with his statement.

The statement was meant to explain the nature of the current phase, said the Presidential release.

The Court's statement indicates that the Presidential aide was accusing the Court without evidence; something which is completely untrue, said the Presidential release.

The remarks by the Presidential assistant have been taken out context and were distorted, said the Presidential release.

The Presidential assistant was only seeking to explain the nature of the current political situation in Egypt, it added.
