Egypt: Brotherhood, Salafis Call for Mass Protest in Alexandria

The Muslim Brotherhood and several Salafi parties on Wednesday declared their intention to stage a million-man demonstration in front of Alexandria's al-Qaed Ibrahim mosque next Friday.

The demonstration comes in response to what they called the trespassing of "the Popular Current and the Constitution Party militias" on the mosque and the besieging of Sheikh Ahmed al-Mahallawy inside the mosque last Friday.

The Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, the Salafist Call, al-Nour Party, al-Asala Party, the Building and Development Party and the Islamic Jama'a will participate in the demonstration.

"Islamist powers have decided to mobilize for the demonstration to declare popular rejection for the practices of the Popular Current and Constitution Party thugs and militia which assaulted headquarters of the brotherhood then the homes of brotherhood leaderships and finally insulting the houses of God and Islam scholars such as al-Mahallawi," the Brotherhood's Alexandria Facebook page reported Anas al-Qadi, spokesman of the brotherhood in Alexandria, as saying.
